These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of studylanguage.top, the Study Language Academy student portal, staff portal, recruiter portal, and the "Amara" AI tutor (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Study Language Academy, Nairobi, Kenya ("SLA", "we", "us", "our").
By creating an account, submitting an application, enrolling in a language programme, or otherwise using the Service, you ("you", "student", "user") agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
The Service is intended for learners of any age. If you are under 18 years old, you may only enrol with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who must agree to these Terms on your behalf and remains responsible for account activity, fee payments, and communications with the Academy relating to your enrollment.
By submitting an enrollment application for a minor, the submitting adult confirms they are that learner's parent or legal guardian, or are otherwise authorised to enrol them.
SLA offers self-paced and instructor-led language learning across 14 languages (English, Kiswahili, French, Arabic, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Koine Greek, Biblical Hebrew, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Italian, and Hindi), through two tiers. English and Kiswahili are currently available across all three CEFR-aligned levels (A1–A2, B1, B2–C1); the remaining languages are currently available at Level 1 (A1–A2), with further levels added over time.
We may add, change, or discontinue features of the Service at our discretion, and will make reasonable efforts to notify enrolled students of material changes that affect their current level of study.
You must provide accurate, current information when registering (including your name, country, contact details, and native/coaching language) and keep it up to date. Each student is issued a unique admission number on enrollment.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at info@studylanguage.top if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
Fees are charged per level and displayed in the Fees & Plans section of the site; posted promotional/scholarship pricing applies only for the period stated at the time of enrollment. Payment for a level is collected in three instalments: an enrollment instalment due to activate access, followed by two further instalments as your studies progress. Full payment terms and current amounts are confirmed by our Finance team on application and are also visible in your student portal.
Access to paid-tier content (live classes, notes, video tutorials, weekly tests, and end-of-level exams) for a given level requires the enrollment instalment to be paid, subject to any grace period or payment plan agreed with our Finance team. We may suspend access to paid features for a level if instalments fall materially behind the agreed schedule, after reasonable notice.
All fees are quoted in US Dollars (USD) unless stated otherwise. Payment instructions are provided directly by our Finance team — please have your admission number ready when paying, and always confirm payment channels via info@studylanguage.top or the phone number listed in section 20 before sending money, since we will never ask you to pay to a different, unverified account or individual.
The policy below reflects a standard, reasonable approach for a programme like this — please confirm it against your actual practice and adjust before publishing, since no refund policy was found documented elsewhere in the platform.
Live classes take place inside the student and staff portals via embedded video conferencing. When you join a live class, your name and (for students) admission-linked details are automatically used to identify you in the session, and your join/leave time is recorded as an attendance record tied to that class and session for academic and administrative purposes.
By joining a live class you consent to your presence, audio, and video being visible to the instructor and other enrolled students in that session for the duration of the class. Instructors may share supplementary videos during or after a class; these become part of that class's shared materials under section 11.
Class schedules, instructors, and meeting links may change; we will make reasonable efforts to notify enrolled students in advance.
Weekly progress tests may be retaken without limit and are intended as a learning tool. End-of-level exams are limited to one attempt per level; a retake requires a written request and approval from your instructor or the academic team, considered on a case-by-case basis (for example, documented illness or a technical failure during the exam).
Answers to objective (multiple-choice) exam questions are independently verified by our systems against the official question bank before a result is recorded; short-answer, extended-writing, and speaking components are graded by a human instructor or reviewed with AI assistance under instructor oversight (see section 10). Submitting work that is not your own, using unauthorised assistance during a timed exam, or attempting to interfere with the grading or attendance-recording systems is a breach of these Terms and may result in the exam being voided and/or account suspension under section 15.
Students who pass a level's end-of-level exam at or above the published pass mark, and who have settled the fees applicable to that level, are issued an SLA Language Certificate for that level. Certificates describe proficiency in terms aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) as an educational benchmark; they are issued by Study Language Academy and are not issued, endorsed, or accredited by the Council of Europe or any government examination body, and should not be represented as such. Where a certificate is required for a specific external purpose (university admission, employment, immigration, etc.), you are responsible for confirming with that third party whether an SLA Certificate meets their requirements.
"Amara" is an automated, scripted conversational tutor. While she is presented to you as your language coach, her responses, marking, and lesson pacing are generated by software (including, for some features, third-party AI language models), not a human, unless you are explicitly in a live class with a human instructor. Amara's corrections and scoring are a learning aid and are not a substitute for human academic assessment where one is required (e.g. end-of-level exams, which are graded as described in section 8).
We may use automated tools to assist with generating draft lesson content, suggesting exam questions, or pre-screening written/spoken exam answers; final academic decisions on graded assessments remain subject to instructor review.
All course content — lesson notes, video tutorials, exam and test materials, the Amara tutoring scripts, and the SLA name and logo — is the property of Study Language Academy or its licensors and is provided to you for your personal, non-commercial use as an enrolled student. You may not copy, redistribute, publicly share, sell, or use SLA materials to build a competing product or service.
You retain ownership of your own submitted work (written answers, spoken recordings, forum/chat messages), but grant SLA a licence to store, process, and use it to provide, grade, and improve the Service.
When using the Service, you agree not to:
We may investigate suspected violations and take action under section 15.
Individuals accepted as Recruitment Officers earn a commission for students they refer who complete enrollment, calculated as a percentage of that student's fees actually received by SLA, as published in the officer's portal at the time of referral. Commission is credited only once a referred student's payment is confirmed and is subject to the anti-fraud provisions of section 12 (e.g. self-referral or fabricated enrollments void any commission earned). SLA may change commission rates for future referrals with notice to active officers, and may suspend an officer's account for violation of these Terms.
We collect the personal information needed to operate the Service: your name, contact details, country, native and target language, payment and fee records, academic progress and results, and — where you use live classes or Amara's voice features — audio you provide during those sessions. This information is used to provide and improve the Service, communicate with you about your studies and payments, issue certificates, and process recruiter commissions where applicable. We do not sell your personal information.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including role-based access so that student records are visible only to you and to authorised staff. No online service can guarantee absolute security. We recommend publishing a standalone Privacy Policy alongside these Terms for full regulatory clarity (e.g. under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, and any applicable regulation in a student's own country) — this section is a summary, not a replacement for one.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, with or without notice, if you materially breach these Terms, fail to pay outstanding fees after reasonable notice, or engage in conduct that we reasonably believe is harmful to other users, staff, or the Academy. You may close your account at any time by contacting info@studylanguage.top; outstanding fees remain payable and section 6 governs any refund.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." While we work to keep lesson content, schedules, and the platform itself accurate and available, we do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular learning outcome, exam result, or proficiency level will be achieved. Live classes depend on third-party video-conferencing infrastructure outside our control, and occasional technical disruption can occur.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Study Language Academy shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the total fees you paid to SLA for the level or programme giving rise to the claim in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited (for example, liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence).
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Study Language Academy, its staff, and its officers from any claim, loss, or damage (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Effective date" above when we do, and for material changes we will make reasonable efforts to notify enrolled students (e.g. by email or an in-portal notice). Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service that cannot be resolved informally will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Kenya, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the law of your own country of residence.
We encourage students to first raise any concern directly with us at the contact details below so we can try to resolve it quickly and informally.
